MOTHER: a story about growing up and wonderful moments of motherhood
This exhibition was on view from Tuesday, 11 February 2020 to the end of March 2020.
The exhibition, entitled “The Mother: A Story of Growing Up and Wonderful Moments of Motherhood” by Petra Vengar, is dedicated to all women and mothers. It celebrates the month of March and with it Women’s Day and Mother’s Day, and above all it puts the woman, the mother and her life cycle of growing up in the foreground.
Recently, the book Wool and Body was published, in which the author dr. Svetlana Slapšak deals with the complex relationship between wool and the world of women. In it, she points out that wool as a material has been connecting this world with the world of deities and the supernatural since Greek mythology, and wool processing techniques have always enabled women a special position in society. With their otherwise invisible work at home, women have always made an important contribution to the family economy. Throughout history and especially with industrialization, women, with their knowledge and work, have slowly managed to position themselves in the male patriarchal society, and also with the help of wool, women have slowly gained their voice.
Wool and learning its processing techniques create important bonds between generations as grandmothers and mothers pass on their knowledge to their grandchildren and children.
Wool also gives its voice to Petra Vengar, the author of the exhibition. This one tells the story of a universal life cycle, and at the same time Petra also involves herself in it. She is also a mother and by creating Petruškas she created a profession with which she takes care of her family. Her creations travel all over the world also because they tell universal stories and awaken universal emotions.
Petruškas do not have a useful function, but they have an exceptional aesthetic value. They are woolen sculptures that tell stories. The function of Petruškas is above all very intimate, as it addresses the individual personally, and brings positive energy and joy into the space in which they are present. In the presence of Petruškas, we soften, remember our childhood and connect with the supernatural. Petra Vengar revives wool sculptures with her own hands, breathes personality into them, and with them creates a pleasant environment that we simply need.

Petra Vengar, who creates under the name Petruška, presents her work at the exhibition.
Petruškas are fairy-tale creatures created in the technique of dry felting. Wool as a versatile material has also become a medium for artistic expression. With its properties, softness and colors, we can achieve interesting decorative effects, and through the creative process, the creator creates energy that brings special value to the space.
