On the first day, August 28, the opening of the exhibition Textile Stories of the Alps took place at the Sokolski dom in Škofja Loka, with a series of talks on sustainability and the importance of intertwining innovation and tradition in the textile industry. The exhibition Textile Stories of the Alps takes us on a journey through the Alpine landscapes, where textiles are not just a product, but part of a way of life that connects communities and promotes change.
The exhibition is part of the AlpTextyles project, which places the rich textile heritage of the Alpine region at the center of the search for new answers to contemporary challenges. In a landscape—both social and economic—where natural materials such as wool, flax, and silk have historically prevailed, the project promotes the revival of local, circular textile chains based on the natural and cultural resources of the Alps. As more and more consumers seek sustainable and environmentally friendly products, AlpTextyles offers a model that promotes local, inclusive, and responsible production.
The exhibition presents fragments of project activities and results that were created in collaboration with artisans, researchers, designers, and communities from six Alpine countries. The selection presented follows the path taken by the AlpTextyles project through various activities, divided into five thematic areas: Heritage, Sustainability, Circularity, Skills, and Connectivity.
The opening was accompanied by short inspirational speeches related to the aforementioned thematic areas, in which Cassiano Luminati, Tadeja Pance, Anja Musek, Vita Ivičič, and Dan Podjed shared their thoughts with us.
On the second day, August 29, the Textile Train took us from Škofja Loka to Nova Gorica. The trip was enriched with creative workshops. In Nova Gorica, there will be an afternoon lecture by Monica Bota Moisin, a lawyer specializing in cultural intellectual property. The final event was a round table discussion on the key findings of the AlpTextyles project and visions for the further development of the textile ecosystem in the Alps.
