In the past weaving was well developed as a house craft, sadly nowadays only a few individuals are continuing it. In Škofja Loka mostly willow and hazelnut sticks were used to weave many different things used for work around the house, on the fields, and even furniture. In Škofja Loka Museum we introduce a view in the past, with different weaved products and photographs from our archive. In Art and Craft Center DUO Škofja Loka a story of craftsmen Janez Krišelj is introduced. He comes from a family with weaving tradition and is one of a few people still carrying this knowledge nowadays.
By taking place in two different locations the exhibition intertwines two institutions. It signifies the end of a deep study of wickery in Škofja Loka and the Gorenjska region. A handbook on weaving techniques is documented as well as an educational documentary which is included in the exhibition itself. The first phase of the exhibition will take place in two locations, later on, both parts will be shown in Škofja Loka Museum.
The work is possible due to the project Roko-delci, which in the region of LAS Loško pogorje connects the Local action group of Loško pogorje, Sora development agency (Art and Craft center DUO Škofja Loka), Škofja Loka Museum and Chamber of craft and small business of Škofja Loka.
The project is co-funded by European Union from the European agricultural fund for rural development and by the Republic of Slovenia (Program for rural development RS 2014 – 2020). For the Program of rural development RS, 2014 – 2020 Ministry of agriculture is responsible. Content-wise Sora development agency is responsible. o. o in Loški muzej Škofja Loka.
