Students learn about hat-making as an activity – hatters are not the only ones who make hats! Through explanation, sensory learning about materials, videos and trying on hats, students learn about the rich heritage of hat-making, which has shaped our cultural and economic space for centuries. Each student tries the technique of wet felting himself – each makes a felt ball, which he takes with him.

Students learn about the rich textile heritage. They learn about different materials, their origin and methods of production. Students learn about natural fibers (flax, cotton, hemp, silk, nettle, bamboo, wool, animal hair …) and ways to obtain and process them. They also learn about a rarely known technique of blue printing and the interesting plant indigo, which gives a wonderful blue dye.
